There is clearly something inside of me that is wired to be a teacher wherever I am. The opportunity to go to schools gets me excited, so when the girls invited me to go to their school fair on Saturday, I was thrilled. I was expecting much like what we do at our school for the families at the end of the year: some pizza, drinks, a few presentations, a bouncy castle or two, and a teacher dunk tank. When I showed up and saw rides, gelato, french fries, snow cones, games, a huge stage with some amazing performers, hundreds of people, and fireworks to finish off the night, I was amazed. I also got to see the girls' classroom, which unlike our schools where everything is inside one building, is separate from all the other classrooms. The hallways are outside, there are four huge playgrounds, and heaps of space to run - it almost made me wish I was back in the classroom teaching!
Sunday morning, we headed to some local markets where the food was delicious, the produce was fresh, and there were lots of dogs around to love...they had some pretty funny signs around, too! It was a hot day and the vibe around town was a happy one, so spending it with good company made for a great morning.
